What strange times are these!? I’m live back in the KAOS studio again, which is fantastic, but threw a wrench in the works when it came to recording shows and getting them up on the website.
But hey, I may have figured out! Let me know how it sounds!
I know the title may be Bagpipe Blues, but this is really bagpipe swing, baby!
Gunhild Carling is my new discovery, so along with a couple tracks from her (and her big band) we’ve got Rugcutter Dance Orchestra, Dandy Wellington, Tacla, Shirt Tail Stompers, Posey Royale, and lots, lots more!
No really, bagpipes. In swing. It works, I swear ….
Title spot this week goes to Miss T & The Mad Tubes (featuring Big Jay McNeely) – there are just a handful of YouTube videos that came up for them, but still some good ones, like this!
Also this week: Ella Fitzgerald and Muguette, back to back, along with Mat Najean Jazz Band, Hot Swing Sextet, Ultrafaux, Mamie Minch, Birch Pereira & the Gin Joints, and lots more. Enjoy!
Marina & The Kats are a fun band out of Vienna, Austria, and get the title spot this week because it’s such a fun song name. They have some cool YouTube videos as well, like this one!
Also lots of new (to me) music this week, from folks like Kentucky Five, SwingHeap, Collectif Big Easy, Djangonauten, and many more. Enjoy!
Tamar’s birthday was July 29 (which is actually a happy coincidence!) – but I actually decided to focus on her in this show because I realized just how many tracks I had with her singing that were with entirely different groups and in different settings. Like this lovely little personal concert she did last year with Mamie Minch …
Lots of great music all around, of course, but you’ll hear Tamar singing in various tracks with various bands, such as Gaucho, Eli & the Chocolate Factory, Professor Cunningham and his Old School, and Mona’s Hot Four. And, of course, with Mamie Minch, again, because they are both amazing.
